Carlos Trejo A.K.A. DJ QBIX from Ft.Cobb Oklahoma USA , QBIX has without a doubt, as like so many other musicians, been graced with the various sounds of music since an early age. Though he had grown up with his mother’s own roots of Spanish musical influence and her favorite musical American artists, Carlos still then provided a curious ear and query towards body movN’ beats. His quest for what lies behind the beat and how it’s done was sparked even further when he purchased his first cassette tape, Technotronic – “Pump up the Jam”, in 1989. After his family’s transition from Oklahoma to New Mexico 1991, Carlos’ path was designed for him to meet other funk beat driven characters. The late Clyde “Justin” Lobato and Melissa Zietentsky are just to name a couple. Devoid of these two wonderful ground-breaking individuals, however, Carlos may not have become what he is now known by - DJ QBIX. To begin Carlos’ transition to DJ QBIX, Justin, Melissa,Steph,Tim,Kevin,Jennifer and Carlos instantly connected and had music in common and decided together, along with another future DJ to be – BIONIC, to host house parties and mix cassettes/CDs in 1994 in Alamogordo, NM as a crew. The crew would later become known as A New Beginning Productions. Together they traveled to El Paso, TX and Albuquerque, NM looking for a grander prospective and stumbled across a supplementary genuine taste of the underground Techno party culture. 1993 - Vinyl is discovered by the crew and Carlos begins mixing Trance, House, Techno, Break Beats, Progressive, and Drum & Bass. Haven checked the scene and beats in El Paso and venturing out towards Northern NM, it was at Club United Nations in 1996, that hosted an Albuquerque crew known as Little Planet Productions where Carlos became immersed in and influenced by DJs already breaking ground for a continuing future of the Underground Culture such as DJ Eldon, Reverend Mitton, and Little Man. During the years 1994-1997, the crew went from playing house parties to organized mountain and tent parties. In 1997 Melissa orchestrated parties such as Earthrise and The Day after Yesterday where Carlos started making his name debut – QBIX. As time moved forward, so did QBIX. 1997 – Present has brought QBIX gigs in Sacramento, CA, Salt Lake City, UT., Juarez, MEX., back to El Paso, TX, Las Cruces, NM, and Albuquerque, NM. QBIX has even been invited to play on KRUX radio station in Las Cruces, NM. In 2007 QBIX switched to a digital set-up, opening new doors and making more music available. Currently QBIX mixes live on statichq.com out of Q-Studios in Alamogordo, NM. He plays his preferred style of music – deep funky house. One of the fortunate sides to broadcasting live is the heightened DJ fellowship with other local DJs spawning The DJ Knights. Also, QBIX DJs for current fests such as TechnoPal 2 and 3.
